626 Night Market

Since its opening in 2012, the 626 Night Market has been an event to go to for food, live music and company. It has grown to have over 50,000 attendees and 150-180 vendors. Originally it was held in Arcadia, to be in the 626 area code region, however, it has spread to Orange County and Los Angeles.

This fair or festival was created to bring together all the influences of the 626. However, I feel that it does not fully represent the community. Much of the vendors are of Asian influence, and as we know, Asian are a big part of the San Gabriel Valley, but it is not all of it. I feel that it fails to fully represent the entire 626 area. Rather, it is a display Asian culture, using Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese foods. The night market prides itself for having the "World's Largest Cup of Boba", and continues to emphasize the Asian culture. This perpetuates the idea that the San Gabriel Valley is only Asian, and actually overshadows all the other minorities living in the community.
