The poem is an elegy to his mother who spent many years in different mental asylums. After her death Ginsberg began to think about the meaning of life and death. In this poem his prayer for those who are dead is only making things worse for himself. Here he portrays his mother’s life and life as general being very hard to deal with and death as a peaceful entity that eases all the pain, he also mentions that death would be helpful if it doesn’t unleash its gesture of remorse. The general suffering of life is something that makes him want death more during his life time. Death is the most prominent theme in the poem and is portrayed in a very positive manner where death is welcomed and the dead are prayed for.
