Spiers was a native of Hamilton, Ontario. He served briefly in the Diocese of Indiana from 1878 to 1879 at St. Andrew's Church in Warsaw, Indiana. He died in Warsaw on 1 December 1879, and his body was sent back to Ontario for burial. He had two sons at Racine College at the time.
