Rev. William James Walker

The Rev. William J. Walker was born in Detroit on 29 May 1937, the son of James W. and Mattie Lee (Williams) Walker. He graduated from Lane College in 1958 and McCormick Theological Seminary in 1961, having grown up in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He later went to General Theological Seminary, graduating in 1962, the same year ye was ordained as a deacon by Bishop Emrich of Michigan. He was ordained tot he priesthood by Bishop Dewitt the following year. He married Guelda Joyce White on 29 June 1968. Walker began his career at Grace Church in Detroit, serving as curate from 1962 to 1963. He then became curate of Trinity in Detroit from 1963 to 1964, during which time he was affiliated with the Institute of Pastoral Care. He became rector of St. Philip's Church in Jacksonville, Florida, from 1964 to 1965, and then served the diocese in a non parochial role from 1966 to 1967. He became rector of St. Augustine's in Gary from 1968 to 1970. After leaving Gary, he served on the Bishop's Commission for Training and Education as well as on the board of the Girl's Friendly Society. By the mid 1970s he was rector of All Saints Church in St. Louis. He later returned to Detroit as rector of St. Cyprian's Church and died there unexpectedly on 30 July 1987.
