Martin was born in Dallas, Texas, on 10 July 1934, the son of Howard Charles and Minerva (Cory) Martin. He graduated from Austin College in 1956 and the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in 1959. He was ordained both a deacon and priest that same year. He married Barbara Gail Parr on 30 August 1958. He began his career in Texas as curate of St. Luke's in Dallas from 1959 to 1960. He then served as rector of St. Paul's in Brady and vicar of St. Luke's, San Saba, in 1961. He moved to Florida as assistant at St. James in Ormond Beach from 1961 to 1963 and then assistant at St. John's, Tampa, from 1963 to 1966. He was vicar of St. Peter's in Plant City from 1966 to 1969, then rector of St. Mark's Evangelical Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale from 1969 to 1971. He then moved to South Bend, Indiana, to do graduate work at the University of Notre Dame. He was priest-in-charge of St. John of the Cross, Bristol, from 1976 to 1978. He became rector of St. Alban's, Fort Wayne, in 1982, and died in Fort Wayne on 15 January 1986 of heart disease.
