Edward Hoffenbacher was born on 9 February 1899 in Hancock, Michigan, the son of John William and Clara (Prideaux) Hoffenbacher. His religious training is not known. He came to East Chicago, Indiana, and served briefly at the Church of the Good Shepherd in 1927. In 1930, he returned to the diocese and had charge of three parishes: Trinity Logansport, St. Mary's Delphi, and Trinity Peru. He remained there until 1936, when he transferred back to East Chicago, taking the reins of the Church of the Good Shepherd until 1945. He also had charge of St. Alban's Church in nearby Indiana Harbor. During World War II he served for a time in the chaplaincy corps. He died in Hillsborough, Florida, on 2 November 1974.
