Driver was born in Edna, Kansas, on 21 September 1910, the son of the Rev. William Henry and Sidney Burnetta (Smith) Driver. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1931 and Seabury Western Seminary in 1934. He was ordained both a deacon and priest that same year, He married Jeanne Studer on 8 September 1937. He began his career as vicar of Trinity Church in Independence, Missouri, which he served from 1934 to 1938. He then came to Northern Indiana as rector of Trinity Church, Michigan City, which he served from 1938 to 1943, and in that role occasionally visited St. Augustine's in Gary. In 1943 he became rector of St. Stephen's CHurch in Seattle. He left there in 1952 for St. Edmund's Church in San Marino, California, where he served until 1966. He died in Carlsbad, California, on 13 May 2000 and was buried in All Saints Cemetery, San Luis Rey.
