Rev. Wilbur Dean Elliott

The Rev. Wilbur Dean Elliott was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on 26 December 1886, the son of Hugh S. and Cordilla (Drake) Elliott. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1910, but where he went ti seminary is unknown. He came to Gary in 1917 and was made rector of Christ Church. He became deeply interested in organized labor while there, which caused some controversy with U.S. Steel. His successor, the Rev. James Foster, wrote that Elliott committed a personal indiscretion, which led to his removal as rector in 1920. He was not defrocked, but he moved to Detroit where he worked as a realtor. He died by suicide on 14 October 1926 and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, California.
