Rev. Sydney Hugh Brice Croft

The Rev. Sydney H. Croft was born in Rahway, New Jersey, on 1 July 1910, the son of Arthur Stanley and Laura (Brice) Croft. He attended St. John's College and received a Master of Divinity from Nashotah House in 1935. He was ordained a deacon in 1937 and a priest in 1938. He married Margaret A. Engelke on 7 June 1939. He began his career as rector of Gethsemane Church, in Marion, Indiana, during which time he also had charge of St. Paul's, Gas City, and St. Luke's Mission in Hartford City. Remaining until 1942, he entered the Army as a chaplain during World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. Upon his discharge he became vicar of St. Stephen's Church in Wahiawa, Hawaii, from 1945 to 1949, and then chaplain of St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin, from 1949 to 1959. From there he became headmaster of San Miguel School for Boys in California from 1959 to 1962. He then moved to Simi Valley as vicar of St. Francis of Assisi Church from 1962 to 1967. Then he moved to Seattle to be vicar of All Saints Church from 1967 to 1973, when he retired. He died in Riverside, California, on 26 October 1995.
