Day was born in Ottawa, Illinois, on 13 September 1877, the son of Elias M. and Agnes Isabel (Reynolds) Day. He served as rector of St. Thomas Church, Plymouth, from 1913 to 1916. Afterward he moved to Brooklyn, New York, as an assistant at St. Paul's Church, and then became rector of Grace Church in Jamaica, Long Island, where he spent the remainder of his career, He died in Jamaica, Queens, on 5 September 1921 and was buried in Montrose Cemetery in Chicago.
