Rev. Raymond Mansfield O'Brien

The Rev. Raymond M. O'Brien was born on 11 September 1908 in Howes Cave, New York, the son of Michael and Ethel M. (Hunt) O'Brien.He graduated from Colgate University in 1931 and then attended General Theological Seminary before transferring to Seabury-Western, from which he graduated in 1934. He was ordained both a deacon and priest in 1934, and married Harriet B. Foster. He began his career as an assistant at Holy Cross Mission in Baltimore and later at a church in Niles Center, Illinois. He came to Indiana in 1938 and was given charge of Trinity Church, Logansport, St. Mary's, Delphi, and Christ Church, Huntington. He remained only a year before moving to Evansville as rector of St. Paul's. For many years he was on the staff of St. John the Divine in New York City, where he had charge of Christian education. He moved later to Elmira, New York, and then in 1962 to Boca Raton, Florida, where he was rector of Grace Church and served as chaplain of St. Andrew's Episcopal Boys School. He died in West Palm Beach, Florida, on 1 October 1978.
