Stimson, also styled Stinson, was born in Royalston, Massachusetts, on 31 December 1824, the son of Levi and Eliza (Proctor) Stinson. Ordained a deacon and priest in 1852, he married Malvina Bulkey on 27 December 1853. He served St. Matthew's Church in Wilton, Connecticut, in 1853, and then went to Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1862 as rector of St. Paul's. In 1872 he was called to Indiana to be rector of Grace Church in Lafayette, where he also did missionary work at St. Mary's, Delphi, Indiana. He remained there until 1876. He later spent time in Michigan, serving Christ Church in Owasso from 1877 to 1881. He then went to St. Stephen's, Escanaba, in 1881 and did mission work in Ford River, Wilson, and Old Mission. He died in Grand Traverse County on 27 April 1897.
