Ward was born in New York City on 24 August 1868, the son of Josiah Otis and Sophia Estelle Ward. He married Nola Williams on 6 June 1892 in Manhattan. He served as rector of St. Andrew's Church in Kokomo, Indiana, from 1900 to 1901. He moved to Croton, New York, to take charge of St. Augustine's Church in 1907, and the 1910 census listed him in Cortlandt, New York,. By 1920 he was working in Philadelphia as an accountant. He died in Bellevue Hospital, New York City, from the effects of being struck by a car, on 14 March 1938.
