Kirk was born in Boston on 19 June 1861, the son of John F, and Mary (Weed) Kirk. From 1897 to 1898 he served as a missionary at St. Mary's Church in New Carlisle. During that period he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop White. He left to take charge of a church in Washington, Daviess County, Indiana. He married Frances Anne Reid in Philadelphia on 27 April 1899. He served churches in Atlantic City and Glassboro, New Jersey, He died on 14 January 1934 and was buried in St Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery in Glassboro.
