Rev. John Andrew Dooris

The Rev. John A. Dooris was born in Ireland on 30 November 1836. He married Jane E. Gwynne at an unknown date, probably in Ohio. He graduated from Kenyon College in 1862, and then moved to Newton, Kansas in the 1860s, and then became rector of the Church of the Epiphany in Urbana, Ohio, in the late 1860s. By 1870 he had settled in the Diocese of Pittsburgh to do missionary work. He was admitted tot he Diocese of Central New York in 1873, becoming chaplain of the Willard Asylum and missionary at Ovid, New York. He arrived as rector of Trinity Church, Logansport, Indiana, in 1879 and remained until 1881. From there he went to Evansville to become rector of the Church of the Holy Innocents. In 1896 he moved to St. Louis to become rector of St. Andrew's Church and died there on 23 December 1914 suffering cancer reportedly brought on by a fall. He was buried next to his wife in Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, Ohio.
