Rev. James Henry Watkins Blake

The Rev. James H. W. Blake was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on 5 May 1854, the son of the Rev. Samuel Vinton and Mary Clare (Watkins) Blake. He attended Dickinson College in Carlisle. Pennsylvania, was ordained a deacon in 1879 and a priest in 1880 by Bishop Peterkin. He began his ministerial career as an assistant at St. Mark's Parish in Frederick County, Maryland, from 1878 to 1879. He married Mary Frances Giddings in 1878. He was in Middleway, West Virginia, from 1879 to 1881, then at Trinity Church in Tiffin, Ohio, from 1881 to 1893. He then moved to Lafayette, Indiana, where he did missionary work, including a stint at St Mary's, Delphi, in 1897. He served at St. Paul's Church, Akron, Ohio, from 1898 to 1902. He then moved to Christ Church in Georgetown, District of Columbia, where he served until his retirement in 1924. He died in Washington, D.C., on 27 April 1928 and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery there.
