Rev. Henry Lewis Ewan

The Rev. Henry L. Ewan was born in Lewistown, Illinois, on 30 January 1905, the son of George Humphrey and Ora May (Miller) Ewan. He was a graduate of Nashotah House, being ordained a deacon in 1929 and a priest in 1930. He began his career at St. Stephen's Church in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1929 to 1931. He then came to Indiana as rector of Gethsemane Church, Marion, also serving as vicar of St. Paul's Church in Gas City. While there he married Lydia Imogene Teegraden in Montgomery, Indiana, on 19 September 1934. He remained in Marion through 1939, then moved to Illinois to take charge of St. Jude's Tiskilwa, and St. John's in Henry. Ewan then began a period of moving every few years. He served St. Luke's, Billings, Montana, from 1942 to 1947; rector of St. Barnabas, Omaha, from 1947 to 1949; and St. James, Paso Robles, California, 1949 to 1951. He closed out his career as rector of the Church of the Transfiguration in Arcadia, California, from 1951 to 1962. In retirement, he served as a chaplain of the Episcopal Retirement Home from 1962 to 1972, then became a priest on the staff of All Saints, Pasadena, from 1972 to 1983. died in San Luis Obispo, California, on 12 December 2001.
