Henry Lawrence Clode Braddon was born in Calcutta, India, on 28 February 1851, the son of English-born parents. He arrived in New York in 1872, moved to Iowa, and graduated from Griswold College in 1879. He married Stella May Earl on 28 June 1882 in Scott County, Iowa. He was ordained to the diaconate in Iowa in 1883 and while not yet a priest, came to Indiana to do missionary work at Delphi between 1884 and 1886, during which time he greatly expanded its membership. He moved to Christ Church, Delaware City, Delaware, later in 1886, and by 1898 was rector of St. Luke's Church in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He renounced his ministry in the Episcopal Church in Massachusetts in April 1904. He died in Boston on 29 April 1906.
