Woolverton was born in Olathe, Kansas, on 10 May 1912, the son of Oscar Guenther and Etta Belle (Livermore) Woolverton. He came to Indiana in 1939 as rector of St. James Church in Goshen and vicar of St. John's Church in Bristol. At the outbreak of World War II, he resigned these posts and enlisted as a chaplain in the Army, being discharged in 1945. He married Eleanor Frances Kuhn on Newburgh, New York, on 23 September 1948. In his later years he served as vicar of Trinity Church in Trinidad, Colorado. He died in Salina, Kansas, on 11 September 1985 and was buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina.
