Purucker was born in Greding, Bavaria, Germany on 26 June 1841. His educational background is unknown, but he married Julianna Perkins Smythe in the Church of the Crucifixion, Philadelphia, on 23 June 1869. He moved to New York State, serving Christ Church, Ramapo, in 1873, and spent two years at St. John's, Monticello, from 1876 to 1878. By 1880, he was in Sherman, Texas. From here he moved to DeSoto, Missouri, and then to St John's, Elkhart, in 1882. He remained there only briefly, and then spent two years at Trinity, Logansport, from 1882 to 1883. By 1884, he had returned to New York State and was admitted into the Diocese of Central New York. He returned to Europe with his family and died in Strasbourg, France, on 5 June 1903.
