Claudius was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on 24 September 1916, the son of August Henry and Constance Adelaie (Moriarty) Claudius. He graduated from Seabury Western in 1942, becoming a deacon and priest the same year. He married Emagene Martin Foster on 9 June 1947. He began his career at St. Thomas Church in Falls City, Nebraska, from 1942 to 1950, serving concurrently at Grace Church in Tecumseh from 1943 to 1950. He then came to Indiana as rector of Trinity Church Logansport from 1950 to 1959, serving concurrently at St. Mary's Delphi from 1950 to 1956. During this period he was also chaplain of the State Hospital in Logansport from 1951 to 1955. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, becoming rector of St. John's Church in 1959 and holding that post into the 1970s. He died in Kansas City on 18 June 1999 and was cremated.
