George Jay Childs was born in Burnett, Wisconsin, on 29 November 1876, the son of George Alanson and Mary Mindwell (Sawyer) Child. He graduated from Seabury Divinity School in Faribault, Minnesota, and married Olive Caroline Currie on 8 August 1901 in Euclid, Minnesota. In 1910, he was stationed in Casselton, North Dakota, and in 1920 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He accepted a call to become rector of St. Paul's Church, La Porte in 1927 and served there until retiring in 1948. He died in La Porte on 20 April 1960 and is buried in Pine Lake Cemetery.
