Pressey was born in Brighton, England, on 15 February 1864, the son of James W. And Frances (Cherry) Pressey, He came to America via Detroit on 28 July 1880. He studied for the priesthood at the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was ordained a deacon in 1893 and a priest in 1894. He married Anne Maude Claire Palmer in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, on 7 January 1896, He began his career at St. Paul's Church in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1894 to 1895, and then moved to Indiana, where he did general missionary work. Bishop White sent him to Gethsemane Church, Marion, in 1896, and he remained there through 1899. He then moved to Portland, Maine, where he spent the remainder of his career. He became a naturalized citizen there on 20 September 1905. His death occurred in Portland on 28 December 1961, when he was aged 97, and he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery there.
