Pancoast was born in Philadelphia on 22 March 1879, the son of John Edwin and Annie Harrison (Thomson) Pancoast. He was ordained a deacon in 1906 in the Diocese of Milwaukee and began his career with missionary service at Jefferson and Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, from 1906 to 1912. That year he moved to Chicago to serve as an assistant at St. Bartholmoew's CHurch, where he remained until 1915. He moved to the Diocese of Indiana, where Bishop White sent him to the mission of St. Luke's in Hartford City, serving there until 1919, when he became rector of Trinity Church in Peru. He left Peru for New York State, settling in the town of Salamanca, where he remained for the rest of his career. He married Charlotte White in New York in 1923, and the couple had two children,. He died at Olean, New York, on 22 November 1952 and is buried in Wildwood Cemetery in Salamanca.
