Rev. Clarence Estelle Brandt

The Rev. Clarence E. Brandt was born in Hanover, Jefferson County, Indiana, on 29 July 1861, the son of Felix C. and Elizabeth (Hall) Brandt. He graduated with both a B.A. and M.A. from Hanover College in 1881 and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Knickerbacker in 1886. He went briefly to Philadelphia as an assistant in a large church, then to St. Luke's, Chicago, in 1887, where he also worked as an assistant. He married there in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on 20 May 1890, Ida Richard. In 1891, he served as rector of St. Paul's Church in Rogers Park, Illinois. He came to the Diocese of Northern Indiana in the late 1890s, doing missionary work at St. Mary's, New Carlisle, from 1899 to 1900, and then at St. John's, Bristol, from 1901 to 1907, also caring occasionally for St. Mark's at nearby Howe. In 1920, he served a church in Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Later, he moved to Bremer County, Iowa, where he died on 27 August 1938. He is buried in Harlington Cemetery there.
