Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Charles Turner Jr. was born in England on 15 January 1840. He immigrated with his wife Eliza Jane and their children in 1889, settled in Indiana, and was ordained to the diaconate the same year by Bishop Knickerbacker. He became a priest the following year. He began his ministry at St. John's, Bristol, where he remained until 1892. In May of that year, he accepted the rectorship of the Church of the Advent in Devil's Lake, North Dakota, where ultimately he built it into the third largest Episcopal Church in the state. He remained there until 1901, when he moved to New York and served three years at a church in Medina. He returned to North Dakota in 1904 and performed missionary work at St. John's, Larimore; Calvary, Maryville; and St. Philip's, Inkster. He died on 12 February 1907 and was buried in the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery at Devil's Lake.
