Nield was born in Toronto, Ontario, on 8 November 1922, the son of Francis and Alice (Doodson) Nield. He received a BA from Trinity College in Toronto in 1949, then received a theology degree from Huron College. He was ordained a deacon in 1951 and a priest in 1952. He married Helen Sylvester. Coming to Indiana in 1957, he served as vicar of Holy Family in Angola from 1957 to 1958, then moved to become an assistant at St. Thomas Church in Battle Creek, Michigan, from 1958 to 1961. He then assisted at St. John's Church in Midland, Michigan, from 1961 to 1964. He returned to Canada and died at Georgetown, Ontario, in 1990. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery there.
