Brush was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut in 1832, the son of Hull and Rachel (Norris) Brush. He married Charlotte Whitney. Little is known about his career, though he spent time as a missionary in Indiana and was stationed at Trinity Logansport during the Civil War in 1863. He moved from there to Portsmouth, Ohio, where he served from 1865 to 1866. In his later years he was rector of St. Peter's Church in Dansville, New York, from 1878 to 1883, and then moved to St. Thomas Church, Bath, New York, from 1883 until his death on 8 October 1889.
