William Wirt Raymond was born on 6 March 1831 in Cedarville, New York, the son of John and Penelope (Hopkins) Raymond. He married Harriet Ann Lusk on 30 December 1858. He attended Delancey Divinity School and was ordained a deacon in 1866 by Bishop Coxe. In 1870 he resided in Hillsdale, Michigan, serving as rector of St. Peter's Church. He also served parishes in Union Springs and Rochester, New York, and in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He served as rector of St. James, Goshen, from 1880 to 1885. He later returned to the diocese as rector of St. Thomas Church, Plymouth, from 1891 to 1902. He moved to Baldwinsville, New York, and died in Syracuse on 14 November 1915. He was buried in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
