New Learning 10 (Heather)-Mindmash

This week I decided that I wanted to experiment with an application that is meant for an iPad or tablet.  Thus far, all of my technologies have been used on my laptop (though some of them could have been used on a tablet).  After searching around for a note-taking app, particularly on this pinterest pin, I chose Mindmash.
For additional information, see this article or this summary in iTunes.  Something interesting about this program is that it is specifically for note-taking.  I am a linear thinker, so the idea of using popplet is rather frustrating to me, so I wanted something that supported more linear or hierarchical organization.  Note that it is FREE!

First of all, it is organized in sheets, and allows you to type text, add graphics, and share via social media, email, or printing.
The drawing feature also lets you draw on it like you would on a notepad.
Importantly, this is a free app in iTunes.  It was hard to get used to typing a lot of notes on the iPad, since I'm used to typing with my fingertips on a computer instead of the pads of my finger (which is what the iPad recognizes).  This difference in materiality slowed me down considerably since I'm usually a pretty fast typer.  I was disappointed that you could only import media from your camera or photos?  I guess that this means that you would have to take a screenshot of any images that you wanted to add to your notes.  I think that it is a useful program, but it does seem like it would be easy to accidentally erase your notes.  Also, you have to click save every so often, or you lose what you were working on (some other programs that I have worked with had autosave features.)

Since it is an app for iPad, I'm afraid that I will have to share my notes via screenshot, so See Below...

You can export your work to PDF
Or you can export to email

Comment on Amy's Livebinder-  I had never heard of this program!  It reminds me of the social bookmarking sites that we have looked at this term.  I wonder how it compares?  It looks like it is across from social bookmarking and creating a googlesites or wordpress site.  Yours looks lovely; I like how you were able to embed video files.  I like that it seems easily embeddable.  I can see how you would be frustrated with limitations on scaling items, though.

Comment on Kevin's Megograph- This looks cool!  I like that you can set it up to proceed through the slides independently.  This would be perfect for cycling through material at a conference booth!  I wonder how it compares to prezi and stormboard as far maximum ease and functionality.  Nice job!

Discussion of "New Learning 10 (Heather)-Mindmash"

I must check this out!

Since I've been trying to find an alternative note taking app for my iPad class, this one looks compelling! But I appreciate the drawbacks you noted (no pun intended), especially the one about saving vs losing work. When dealing with student work, I've become wary of using programs that are somewhat self-supporting in the area of saving work. I've heard too many students complain the Blackboard ate their blog posts -- time out function is one of the biggest complaints I have about programs. Drawing features on this program look like a great addition, allowing for multiple learning styles. Thanks for his example!

Kevin's cooment os Heather's Mindmash

I liked your display for MindMash. It seems like an interesting program and one that might be useful for my students, especially since they will all be getting tablets. However, is it free?

I'm glad you challenged yourself to play in different environments.
