“A Pedagogy of Multiliteracies: Designing Social Futures”
The New London Group’s article, ”A Pedagogy of
Multiliteracies: Designing Social Futures” discussed how the educational field
needs to change to service the multiculturalism that exists in the school
system as well as the job market. The article first points out that it is the
educational system’s responsibility is to prepare all students for the job market
.
The article emphasized that despite the fact that school
districts are spending a lot of money on education, there are still gaps with
regards to preparing students for future jobs. This is one topic that my school
system is addressing. Because a lot of my students live in poverty, Bayside
High School is purchasing notebooks for all ninth grade students.
The article emphasized that with the rise of Post-Fordism, it is even more
imperative that classrooms teach culturally and linguistically in the classroom.
Teachers across the country are doing just that as can be seen in the flowing
video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWg-ZrV3wPk
According to the article, teachers and bosses are becoming
designers. In other words, teacher and bosses are supposed to create an
atmosphere where the student or worker may grow to his or her fullest
potential. The following video gives an overview of how teaching is changing in
the 21st century:

Overall, teachers have a huge responsibility with regards to
preparing all students for the workforce of the 21st century;
therefore, it is important to emphasize diversity within the classroom.
3-D Game Lab
Upon taking my quest in the 3D lab, I Professor Rodrigo’s timeline.
I’m inferring that it indicates all her major accomplishments throughout
the years. Furthermore, there are web conferences that one can attend. One
conference is “Lesson Development Environment;” it begins at 10am. Scrolling
down there is a click here link that give you the agenda. On the left column,
links are given to upcoming classes. One interesting class is”Online Teacher
Camps” were one may learn how to create his or her own APP. It begins October
1. Reading through, there is ”Who Owns My Quests?”
“Infrastructure and Composing: The When of New-Media Writing”
Dànielle Nicole
DeVoss, Ellen Cushman, and Jeffrey T. Grabill’s article, “Infrastructure and
Composing: The When of New-Media Writing,” discussed taking tradition forms of
writing and having students use a nontraditional forms instead. The article indicates that a student may express
her or himself rhetorically through the use of multimedia. A lot of teachers
are opposed to using a technical media environment. They say that schools
system lack the funds. This can be a problem. For examples, not all students
have computers at home, and there just isn’t enough technology within schools.
One of the problems with technology that was mentioned in
the article is subjectivity. There are no set standards. However, methods are
being considered to insure objectivity. Expectations are given prior to
beginning the project. The article point out that technology in the classroom
is not a new phenomenon. Computers have been around for years. Students have
been using computers for writing papers composing papers. When these first came
out, teachers questioned them. Now, with new folders and open remote spaces,
teachers are asking the same questions. Nevertheless, it’s only a matter of
time before teachers are using these resources as they have been using
Microsoft word for years.
