Kevin Norris
My name is Kevin Norris, and I’m a full-time, MFA in
Creative Writing student at ODU. I was born in Virginia Beach; however, after
my 7th grade year, I moved to Wisconsin and lived there during my
high school years. After high school, I dabbled around a bit in acting. I moved
to California and when my motorcycle continued to break down, I moved to Jersey
City, NJ, a path train away from Manhattan.
After meeting my wife, I gave up the theater, and studied English at
Rutger’s University and then earned my MA in Education at Saint Peter’s
University. I have been married for twenty one years and have three children,
one just graduated high school.
Since earning my master’s I have fiddled around with college
classes, earning a certification in English as a Second Language along with
additional credits in English and reading. Nevertheless, it paid off. After
earning my 18 credits in ESL, I was able to get a job at Tidewater Community
College, teaching ESL. I taught ESL for seven years. I looked forward to going
to work each class. Actually, I didn’t consider it work. Nevertheless, my first
love is writing. After soul searching for quite a while, I decided to stop
working two jobs and go to graduate school full time.
Though I took a sabbatical from my night job, I couldn’t “quit
my day job.” I’ve been teaching for the past 17-years, 10 have been at the high
school level. One of the major objectives of Virginia Beach City Public Schools
is 21st century skills, meaning “technology.” I hope to get a clear
understanding of how tohelp my students’
writing skills and literacy skills with the use of technology.

Discussion of "Kevin Norris"
thank you
I appreciate you sharing what/how/why you found your way to this class. I appreciate having a sense of where you are and where you want to go (and how this class might help). I think the "major" project is going to be the most useful thing for you.Posted on 25 September 2014, 6:06 am by Shelley Rodrigo | Permalink
