The Battle of Crecy

August 26, 1346: English troops win a decided victory over the French in the Hundred Years' War. Whether it was English patience in the face of French impulse, English longbows having advantage over French cavalry, or just general bloody mishap, scholars have argued over the causes, effects, and even location of the battle for centuries. This semester, students read "The Poem of the Eight Coats of Arms," "Crecy Poem" and "On the Crecy Dead" from Michael Livingston and Kelly Devries' 2015 The Battle of Crecy: A Casebook. These pages are the result.
