Sexual Slavery

Unfortunately, sexual slavery is one of the most commonly thought of examples of human trafficking. Sex trafficking is known to be one of the more violent and horrific forms of human trafficking, especially as it is a form of rape. These images above contain quotes from a victim of sexual slavery. As this person recounts their experience, they describe what is known as dissociation. In other words, the ordeal of enduring this sexual abuse was so traumatic that in order to protect itself their mind separated from reality. Along with PTSD, dissociation is an unfortunately common effect of these situations. The images in the background bolster these quotes. In the upper left image, the reader can see a girl wrapping her arms around her legs. This presents an image of fear and defenselessness paired with the quote truly allows the reader to feel the speaker curling up in their own head to escape what is to come. In the lower right image, the reader can see the image that was behind this in the first. The picture of a woman or girl with her face blurred out sitting in what appears to be a bedroom pans the reader out to see the reality of the situation from the eyes of the abuser. To them, that is all she is, another nameless, faceless girl.
