Prezi Narrative
Using a Prezi to create presentation was new and confusing. One could not simply use bullet points linearly and get away with it. At first it was difficult to create a path that would make for a presentation flows well. The blank space and options are overwhelming. Building a presentation from the ground up was daunting. Unfamiliar with it’s controls, I played around until eventually I got the hang of it. However, breaking the habit of using the linear and bullet style of PowerPoint presentations took awhile.
Rhetorical design plays a big part in designing and writing for a Prezi Presentation. There are five concepts to consider: emphasis, contrast, alignment, promixity, and organization. I had problems with these concepts. My first Prezi presentations were mediocre at best. The paths had no clear direction, bodies of texts were too close to one another, and I barely used visuals such as images and videos.
As the semester progressed, I began to explore and understand Prezi more and more. I began making better flowing paths, adding slides within slides, using visual media, etc. This particular class, Writing in the Digital Age, required students to use Prezi for two major assignments, Know Your Meme Project and Know Your App Presentation. Those Prezi presentations were far better than the ones I had created before with little knowledge of Prezi. While I have learned a lot, there is still much I must improve in terms of writing for a designing a Prezi presentation.
