Spoken word poem focused on cultural synthesis
A final component of revolution for Freire is cultural synthesis which he describes as," In cultural synthesis the actors become integrated with the people, who are co-authors of the action that both perform upon the world" (Freire 1970, 180). The following poem illustrates cultural synthesis through the utilization of the poetic device of small lens/wide lens (description of personal experience which is then connected to general experience).
In this case the poet begins by naming his world and thereby claims his position as a subjective actor. He then extrapolates the aspect of his world to ultimately include all people who have ever lived (through his connection to death). With this extrapolation he invites the audience to integrate into his state of an active subject rather than oppressed object. Within this integration exists Freire's cultural integration. When the audience responds to his poem they become co-authors in the production of the performance and the revolution of the moment.
