Acacia House on Homecoming, 1930

View of the Acacia house, taken at night, while it is decorated for Homecoming 1930. Now the Graduate School of Library and Information Science building, the Acacia House was located at 501 E. Daniel St. in Champaign from 1914-1985. "It was an ideal location, providing an excellent view of the southward growth of the University of Illinois campus and the corresponding shift of fraternity houses. The house was considered to be one of the finest examples of architectural design in the country." (www.rushacacia.com/history).

3. Christmas Greetings from The Phi Kappa News, 1936 The homecoming game of 1936 pitted the University of Illinois against Ohio State. Afterwards the Phi Kappa chapter of Alpha Chi Rho held their annual "Dad's Day." That day, A. P. Little was elected president of the chapter's "Dads Association" and Bob D'Ambrosios was presented with "the Ancient and Sacred Scroll of Alpha Chi Rho, of which he (was) to be sole keeper and guardian of during the coming year."

Albert Lee was the "Chief Clerk of the President's Office (1920-42) (at the University of Illinois), defacto dean of African-American students for the University, and (a) prominent leader within the East-Central Illinois African American Community". During the Great Depression, economic troubles plagued many lower to middle class families in the Champaign-Urbana area, affecting students coming to the University no less. Charismatic among his peers and said to have had a great sense of humor, African American students would come to him for help. According to many, he was always there to give it.
