 The artist of this textile is unknown. However, Amazons on horseback are known in Greek mythology as warrior women who were both courageous and skilled in battle. The ancient Greeks believed they existed in Scythia, the land near the Black Sea, located in modern Russia. Most importantly, the female hunters matched men in physical agility and strength, making them equal in battle. As mentioned earlier, actual remains of these woman have been found, debunking the idea that they are just a myth.
