Department Description:

The honors program, which is offered by several of the departments of the college, consists of the intensified studies in the area of the student's interest. It is established to provide opportunity for the student with exceptional ability and interest in some field to pursue concentrated and accelerated work in that field. The program recognizes that the exceptional student will be served by an opportunity to develop talents to a greater degree than might otherwise be possible. None. The Honors program was used as a way to graduate with the honors distinction. No specific majors or minors were offered for this program.

Sampling of Courses Taught:

Participating departments used existing courses and adjusted the curriculum in order to reflect the more intensive nature required by the honors program. Additional assignments and examinations were created.

Honors program classes were house in many buildings across campus. Since this was a campus wide program, classes were held all across campus.

Random Fun Facts:

The first mention of the honors program came in 1958 although the program was not officially started until 1975. As well, students were required to receive the consent of participating department heads in order to be considered for a part of the honors program.
