The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, through its offering of various programs and services, allows for LGBTQ+ persons in Cleveland to establish a supportive community-- a necessary attribute to let people feel accepted and welcome in their daily lives-- as well as to find specific support needed in growing up and living while identifying as LGBTQ+.Grant and Expansion
The Center recently received a grant from an anonymous donor of $1.8 million from an anonymous donor. The purpose of this grant is for the center to purchase and renovate a new facility, as well as increase staffing and programming capacity. The Milton and Tamar Maltz Foundation made a grant of $500,000, as well as committed to doubling any donations from the public, in order to support upkeep, renovation, and maintenance of the new facility. Phyllis Harris, the executive director, said that, "this funding will allow us to extend Center programs and services through expanded program hours, consistent quality program delivery and increased communication and connection with Greater Cleveland's LGBTQA community." Currently, the Center serves around 500 individuals per month, so the reach of this program will be expanding-- making the Center an even larger all-star in the community. When the center was founded in 1975, it was the third largest LGBT Community Center in the nation, and it shows no sign of slowing down. - Youth and Young Adult Programs
