  Since the beginning of civilization, religion has played a huge part in the lives of many people.  Over the years, this connection has faded, but still binds people, whether they are aware of it or not.  Religious organizations serve to strengthen those connections. Charity volunteers and workers strive to make changes in lives of people they do not even know. In faith-based giving these donations stem, in part, from a spiritual connection.

  Charity and generosity are two fundamental cornerstones of many religions.  Since the beginning of religious society, religion has been associated with charitable giving. Religious principles often dictate charity as an important part of their society.  These principles persist today, and religious institutions often run charities to aid poor communities.

  The city of Cleveland is significantly impacted by poverty. In 2014 Cleveland held almost 22,000 homeless people. 18% of their population lived in poverty (Coalition for Homeless). Cleveland boasts centers that serve 11 different religions (The Pluralism Project). Faith based giving is very important to many people in the city. With 22,000 thousand people living in poverty, religious charities save the lives of their own people. Charity through religion affords a connection between people; citizens are able to feel connected to the people they are helping.
