Cleveland has historically been a densely populated impoverished city. The charities listed on these page are the forerunners of religious contributions in Cleveland, and serve to bind together the poor communities of Cleveland. Since religious affiliation is prevalent in Cleveland, religion plays the role of delivering social services to many poor families. Instead of relying on government services, the city of Cleveland is kept together through a net of religious organizations.
