Type Three: Curaçaoan

Curaçaoan Features
[Audio]The Curaçaoan features improve the Dutch type for this warm and sunny climate by adding breezy galleries.  The tradition of painting in bright colors began at the request of a Dutch West India Company governor-general who complained in 1817 that the whitewashed walls reflected too much sun and hurt his eyes.

Curvy Gables Elsewhere
[Audio]The Curaçaoan buildings often feature fanciful curvy gables like those found in European baroque and Afro-Brazilian architecture, and in formerly Dutch South Africa.
