Replaced Building

[Audio]This challenge to the borders between cultures and styles is also seen in new architecture.  Almost always built in a historical style, to fit in with the general cityscape, the new buildings seem to ONLY reflect the Dutch style.  This tall yellow building was built in the first half of the 20th century, replacing a double-wide two-story townhouse with set-back hipped roof and curvy double gable, a typical mix of Dutch, classical, and Curaçaoan elements.  The modern building looks Dutch, an extra-tall townhouse with spout gable, with a skinny green building alongside, referencing the super narrow buildings in dense urban Amsterdam, but unnecessary in sprawling Willemstad.
