Realization: "most important" life events are not that important
About how outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 has affected life:) It has limited travel to be with extended family as well as social interactions with friends.
(About handling the uncertainty of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19:) I read a variety of sources and weigh the alternatives.
Stress has always been a part of life and so it continues with the pandemic... no better and no worse for me.
Because my teaching responsibilities have long been online, there has been minimal effects on work life.
I have had a home office for 10+ years, so the pandemic offered no new challenges.
(About online teaching and learning and new approaches to these…:) I constantly conduct research and participate in development opportunities for new approaches. I also incorporate student evaluation feedback to modify my approaches.
(About video conferencing and Zoom:) It is negative in that there is no personal interaction with colleagues, but easier to manage and schedule.
(About supporting students in these times:) I've always respected that my students have work and personal obligations, but work closely with them to help them include their educational pursuits as another priority.
Interactions with colleagues have been much more limited than prior pandemic.
(About new technologies that are helpful:) No new technologies that are pandemic related.
(About “superpowers” that help one to cope with present moment:) I have no "superpowers" and just focus on my responsibilities.
(What the “new normal” might look like:) If I had the answer to this question, I would be writing what could become a best-seller.
(What will be remembered from this time:) This experience has helped me realize that many "most important" life events are not that important.
(About preparing for future pandemics:) My response would be too political to share at this point. My lifestyle has been dedicated to healthy behaviors, and I would make no changes.
