In the middle of his presidency at OSC, he dismissed two professors for activities outside of their academic realm. Those professors were L.R. LaVallee, from the Economics Department, and Ralph Spitzer, from the Chemistry Department. Their dismissal caused quite an uproar, and Strand initially refused to give reasons. However, as more and more demand came from the student body and surrounding community, he had no choice but to relent. On February 23rd, 1949, President Strand addressed the academic staff of OSC regarding the two dismissals.
We have both his full address, and the press release the OSC News Bureau released alongside the address. Follow the paths, and get inside President Strand's head, if only just for a moment.
