The response to this question from my classmates was that the genre heroic bloodshed is usually a revenge story that includes themes of brotherhood and crime. They pointed out that in “A Better Tomorrow,” there was two types of brotherhood shown between the blood-related Ho and Kit and the deep bond between Ho and Mark. They believe that the reason that the heroic bloodshed genre became popular was due to the over saturation of martial arts films. At that time, there were no films that featured such themes with that amount of violence in the modern setting. “A Better Tomorrow” contained choreographic action scenes that featured a lot of bloodshed with guns which became a key part in numerous other heroic bloodshed films. Several other responses to the question were that there was an interesting and captivating story that was not buried under the flood of action and violence.
