successful global cities. Ranking in17th place in 2012, San Francisco has been the center of the most popular technology firms and its cultural experiences and arts within its communities has ensured its economic authority in the world.
History
It is with the faith in the American Dream that inspired many people from all over the world to leave their homeland and pursue a better future. During the hype of the California Gold Rush, over 2,000 Chinese immigrated to America in just one day. Compared to the meager amount of Chinese living in America prior to the Gold Rush, this was an incredible increment. This historical event officially marked the first grand wave of Chinese immigrants.
In order to journey towards the California Gold Rush, people sailed overseas for several months. Other routes required individuals to voyage into jungles, which many grew ill from. Because of this, many sought out better solutions to travel towards the riches, including the Transcontinental Railroad.

History
Originally named Yerba Buena, San Francisco started out as a port and naval base during the Mexican-American War. What began with only 200 or so residents after the war, San Francisco used to be a simple place of settlement.
However, the California Gold Rush became the catalyst for San Francisco's booming population. In just one year, over 20,000 people from all walks of life traveled their way to reside in San Francisco in hopes to obtain riches. They believed through hard work and dedication, everyone will soon have the opportunity to succeed and live a luxurious life, which gradually became the epitome of the American Dream.
