D-22

D-22 was a seminal punk rock club (though they hosted other music: rock, metal, experimental) located roughly outside of Peking University's East Gate on Chengfu Road in the student district of Wudaokou. It was founded by Michael Pettis, an American economics professor, China financial analyst, and music promoter who works at BeiDa. I used to see him at Starbucks sometimes. . .

D-22 was the perfect club. Small. Smoky. With nights of tons of bands. You never knew what to expect. Many famous Beijing bands got their start here. You would see the punked out members bringing in equipment or smoking cigarettes outside. Unfortunately D-22 closed in 2012 and was replaced by a much less cool student bar. . . such is life. Some performances. . .
