Angel Island and the City

The Angel Island Conservancy aspires to make Angel Island a “must-see” Bay Area destination. One
of such non-profit organizations that partner with State Parks, AIC works to develop community programs on the island that are made possible by fundraising campaigns like Angel Lights, a fifty-year-old tradition which entails donors "adoption" of a single memorial light honoring a special someone.1 Along with Angel Lights, projects like Angel Cam, which involves AIC uploading a new photo of the island every thirty seconds during daylight hours, exemplify institution-affiliated groups’ efforts to reach out to the local community in order to give back to it and ultimately work Angel Island into the image of not only the city of San Francisco, but the Bay Area at large.2
